Optimism for the African economy as TICAD is hosted in Kenya

Africa is set to reap the benefits that would come as a result of Kenya hosting the 6th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

Speaking during bilateral talks between Kenya and Japan in State House Nairobi on Friday President Uhuru Kenyatta said that TICAD has been fundamental in ensuring economic prosperity in the African continent.

The Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who was welcomed with a 19 gun salute in State House said,’ Part of the focus of the conference will be on diversification, the preservation of the environment and the resilience of African health systems. TICAD is also meant to address Africa’s obstacles to development by providing quality technology and durable solutions.’

Both leaders agreed that industrialization was vital to ensure a robust growth in Africa’s economy.

‘This conference has been a key platform in discussing Africa’s progress with Japan. The discussions have been healthy and they have attracted the ears of enterpreneurs, government as well as civil society,’ the President remarked.

‘History is being made as this is the first time TICAD is being held outside the confines of Tokya, Japan since its inception in 1993,’ both leaders agreed.

The Prime Minister is accompanied by chief executives of at least 75 major companies who will participate in the two day conference.

Kenyan capital Nairobi is expected to host at least 35 African Heads of State and most of the world’s biggest development agencies.

TICAD VI Summit will be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Center KICC in Nairobi, Kenya from 27th -28th August 2016.
